You may be forgetting to clean these parts of your home
The floor gets a vacuum, the pots and pans get washed. But for every table that gets wiped after dinner, there’s an equally deserving shower curtain that has been neglected and requires a clean.
The greatest household inequality of all is that not all parts of the home are treated equally in regards to cleanliness.
A Reddit thread from late 2018 that generated more than 7000 comments had professional cleaners share areas in the house most neglected.
Handles and light switches
Considering how many hands touch handles and light switches, it’s a good idea to regularly clean them, either wiping them down with a damp, soapy cloth or a mild disinfectant.
Shower
A shower might clean you but it doesn’t clean itself. Cleaning the shower fortnightly is recommended, to put mould at bay.
Toothbrush holder
Your toothbrush holder is the third grimiest place in your home, after your kitchen sink and dish sponge. It is advised that you don’t put your toothbrush in something that is breeding. The best way to clean your toothbrush holder is to let it soak in boiling-hot soapy water to remove any stuck-on residue and then give it a scrub, followed by a soak in white vinegar or running it through the dishwasher.
Dish drying rack
Especially at the bottom of the rack, mould and soap scums build up. Regularly wipe it down with a warm, soapy cloth and make sure dish sponges and tea towels are regularly replaced.
Microwaves
Depending on how often you use your microwave will determine how dirty it is or isn’t. Cleaning a microwave is very easy. Fill a small microwave-safe bowl with one cup of water and half a cup of white vinegar and microwave on high for 4-5 minutes. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then wipe the microwave out. It’ll be as good as new.
Rangehood filters
Put them through your dishwasher for a sparkling clean finish or let them soak in boiling hot water and detergent.
When you go to brush your teeth tonight, it might be a good idea to check on the current state of your toothbrush holder.
