Indoor plants to liven your home
Cleaner air, a creative flair, there is no denying that the popularity of indoor plants has soared over the years. Here are some indoor plants that will add a touch of greenery to your abode and give it a fresh summer feel all year round.
1. Spathiphyllum or “Peace Lily”
These have long been a popular house plant, especially since NASA featured it on its list of best air purifying plants. These plants thrive in bright, indirect light. They only need to be watered and misted once a week in warmer months, even less in cooler months. The plant is poisonous so make sure to keep it away from young children and pets who may be inclined to ‘snack’ on it.
2. Adiantum or “Maidenhair Fern”
This plant makes a beautiful addition in your home but it does require some TLC. They require light – not too much, not too little – and need to grow in a warm spot with a bit of humidity. Their luscious light, green leaves make them a beautiful plant to hang as a statement piece in your home.

3. Alocasia Brisbanensis or “Cunjevoi”
Besides its incredibly fitting name, these plants are known for large ‘elephant ear’ shaped leaves. These leaves grow from the centre creating an umbrella shape. The plant is toxic so avoid placing it in reach of young children and pets.
4. Monstera Deliciosa or “Swiss Cheese Plant”
You’re likely to have stumbled across the ‘Swiss cheese plant’ while racking up some kilometres scrolling Pinterest or flicking through a home magazine. They make a statement in any space. These plants prefer a warm climate away from direct sunlight. They can be easily cleaned with a gentle wipe using a damp cloth.

5. Sansevieria or “Snake Plant”
If you’re time poor or forgetful, yet you have an appetite for some greenery in your home, this may be the plant for you. These plants can be neglected for weeks at a time. NASA research has shown that snake plants keep the air in your home fresh by removing toxins. They can survive with little water and low levels of light.
